A snuffbox design that was widespread in its day, depicting in an edifying manner an Apprentice, placed between the columns beneath the square and compass with the letter G, contemplating the tableau of falsehood and error being vanquished, the former by truth and its mirror, the latter by wisdom and knowledge.
