Title
French wooden snuffbox with Masonic decoration.
Caption
French wooden snuffbox engraved with a Masonic motif depicting the Temple, early 19th century, 8 cm.
This meticulously crafted piece features the so-called ‘kiosk’ style of decoration, in vogue since the 18th century, with a wealth of symbolic detail: the moon and sun amidst the clouds, a radiant pentagram, J and B columns framed by acacia trees, tools at the foot of the seven steps, and a radiant delta within the building.
