Caption
Earthenware plate from the West (?), 24 cm, 1831.
Hand-painted plate, from a period when craftsmen were seeking to compete with printed earthenware, hence the ‘combed’ effect of the rim. François Devillaire (1785–1841) was a Mason from Angers affiliated to the Grand Orient, in charge of the quarries at Liré.
