Talking faience plate.
Title

Talking faience plate.

Caption

Decorated earthenware plate from Nevers from the revolutionary period with Masonic influence, 23 cm, circa 1791 or 92. The patriotic and harmonious union of the three Orders was a prominent theme in the early years of the Revolution. Masonic influences are often found here, centred on the number three, the resulting triangular iconography, and the ‘enlightening’ use of Light.
