Sestertius, Antoninus Pius (86–161; Roman emperor 138–161), issuer; personifications; iconography of Antoninus Pius. Obverse: head of the emperor in a laurel wreath to the right, inscription ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP. Reverse: Roma sits on a throne to the left, holding a statuette of Athena (palladium) in her outstretched right hand and a spear in her left, with a shield leaning against the throne, inscription ROMA AETERNA and in the SC section. Date: 140–144. Roman Empire (27 BC–476). Coin; diameter ~32–33 mm; weight 24.50 g.
