Denarius, Antoninus Pius (86–161; Roman emperor 138–161), issuer: Antoninus Pius. Obverse: Head of Antoninus Pius in a laurel wreath facing right, inscription ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P XI. Reverse: Salus standing left in front of an altar feeding a snake; in his right hand a patera held above the altar, around which a snake coils; in his left hand a rudder on a globe, inscription COS IIII. Iconography: Salus (personification), snakes, altars, rudders. Date: 147–148. Roman Empire, Rome. Coin (denarius): diameter 16.5–17.5 mm, weight 3.20 g, axis 180°.
